-Define personality
Personality is different characteristics or qualities that forms an individual distinctive
-Describe trait theory
Trait theory is when your behaviour reflects on you being a sports player for example on the field and off the field your attitude is same, there are 2 different types of personality under the trait theory which is introvert and extrovert , extrovert is when you constantly seek excitement and become easily bored and distracted for example in a class loosing concentration and shouting and talking that is an example of extrovert. an example of introvert is when you don't actively seek excitement and prefer calm environments for example someone in class who will work independently rather working with others.
-Situational approach
This when your behaviour is dependant on the situation rather than your personality, and example of this is when you act different at school rather than at home as at school your more sophisticated rather than at home where you can relax and let of steam
-social learning theory
This is when your personality chances due to new experiences or social situations , and we try to do the same things / model the things that the person we look up to dose (role model) we do this in 4 ways.
1. Attention - our role model wins our attention this is down to respect there general performance of the athlete and there status.
2. Retention- to copy the role models skills and behaviour and memorise them
3. Motor reproduction - we need to use our memory to recall the skills and behaviours we need
4. Motivational response - unless we are motivated none of this matters
-interactional approach
This considers how personality traits and the situational approach work together. for example and introvert is usually calm and relaxed , yet based on the situation can change.
- Which of these apply to your athlete and why ?
Social learning and intractional approach both apply to my athlete because Neymar is a role model to a lot of kids on and off the pitch , they try copy him .Neymars very calm and skill full however his mood might change because he is always getting fouled as defenders cant get the ball of him which gets him frustrated with the player and maybes the referees decision

Type A personality - type A is the people that trend to lack on concentration .suffer of anxiety in the rush they can also multi task for example driving and being on the phone. for example in football holding of a player and doing skills at them same time this shows multi tasking.
Type B personality - type b is the people that are very calm, laid back , low anxiety and relaxed and tolerant towards others around them an example of this is when your giving to much work that is more creative rather than simple work. An example of this in football is taking a penalty as your calm and they have low anxiety meaning you don't feel as much presser.
I think my athlete has type A personality because he is very active and is always on a rush as he has alot to do accept from training and playing matches for example interviews , adverts , sporting shows.however he also has a type b personality because he needs to be calm and composed before the games so he can be creative in game when needed so he can think quickly and perform the skill or pass good with out being under pressure so this helps his performance in a good way.

1. Neymar has got a different personality because when he is on the pitch his mind set is more competitive and will do anything to win and he has a different mind set ,however after matches and he ie personality all the time because he doesn't have to conduct him self in a particular manner.s in society he is friendly towards friends family and fans. But a none athlete has the sam
2. Neymar has got a different personality trait to other athletes for example giggs because neymar has a more type A personality because he shows of by using skills to beat players and to gain attention/showing off , however gigs is more type B because he is calm and relaxed and he conducts him self in a manor where he restricts him self from showing of.
3.Neymar has a type A personality because he is more outgoing he likes to interact with people , his team mates or friends , his personality differs from a athlete which takes part in a individual sport which is more quiet and relaxed for example golf an example of a player who is more quiet and shows a type B personality is Rory Mcilroy, he is more relaxed and likes to do stuff individually.
4. Neymar personality has been influenced by other players/ legends that are brazilian and whre the uper stars where was growing up , Such as the king of football Pele and also ronaldinho . Also Robinho has influenced neymar is many ways because he plays with alot of confidence doing a lot of skill and always want beat defenders with fast pace skills and quick to create chances and neymar adapted that style of playing and attitude because he becomes a better player and people cheer him on, Pele has also been an influence to him in his personality and on the pitch because of his desire to win trophies and become the best player he can be a reach success in the history of football and Brazil national team.
5.Neymar personality has not change much over time as he is a loving character and he main goals are to become the best player he can ever be and achieve success for his country and club and to impresses the manager so he picks neymar up in the big games
6.Neymar has a type A personality this means hes active and is aslo open for abit of attention by doing skills to beat his opponents this gives him a boost in his confidence by scoring goals and he will to do it again and this improves his performances and he looks good to the fans and manager, also when if he looses the ball he works very hard to track back and regain it and this makes people applaud him and this makes his confidence go extremely high because people are cheering him on and this motivates him to be a better player and work even harder to where he could be the best player in the world . Too much attention may sometimes be a bad thing because he might get over confident and loose the ball by performing skill he hasn't predicted however neymar knows how to manage good and uses this to his advantage
7.Neymar doesnt like the aggression of some players as he may feel scared at times of getting seriously injured for example in the world cup when being kneed in his back so now that has happened to him he will be scared to commit into tackles and feel scared against some players because he is afraid of becoming injured again and possibly not playing ever again and this would result in him braking his back making it impossible for him to play football any more and his dream would have been crushed and never playing the same way again meaning he will be poor.
8.Neymar is a big role model to me as he has a good personality , always loving the game of football , however the thing i would change about him is that he is mentally weak as he is scared of getting injured because of what happened to him in the world cup and his back injury he is scared to go into tackles because he thinks he will become injured again and this time it might be worse
motivation types
What is intrinsic motivation -
Intrinsic motivation is when u perform the sport because you love it and enjoy it
Intrinsic motivation is when u perform the sport because you love it and enjoy it
What are examples of intrinsic motivation -
An example of intrinsic is playing football because you love to dribble with the ball as it satisfy s you
What is extrinsic motivation -
extrinsic motivation is when you perform the sport for money or trophy's
there are 2 type of extrinsic motivation
- tangible awards - money trophies and records
- intangible awards - praise from others such as coaches , family and fans
What are examples of extrinsic motivation -
an example of extrinsic motivation is when your friend is in the crowed and your playing and you have the ball doing many skills to show of how good you are
Is your athlete intrinsically or extrinsically motivated and how might this impact their sports performance (positively and negatively) (remember to use real life examples to support your answers)
Neymar intrinsically motivated because he plays football for the love of the game however neymar also has a extrinsically motivated as he wants to win trophy's and also break records which shows his tangible side of extrinsic motivation

Motivation theories -
Trait theory - your motivation is determined by your personality its the same principles as in the personality theory. Highly driven people will do almost everything they possible can to achieve a goal however laid back people will be happy to let things pass by them and wont be bothered if they let them go. For example neymar jr is a highly motivated player which relates to when he's on the pitch so he's motivated to win and play
Achievement motivation theory - motivation comes from your personality and is your drive to succeed , people like this can be divided into 2 groups - NACH(need to achieve) driven for feelings of pride and satisfaction (a positive thinker) - NAF(need to avoid failure) - driven to not feel ashamed or humiliated ( a negative thinker) , for example neymar jr is a NACH type of person because all he wants to do is become a bigger and better player and every game he think positive to win and score.
attributions theory- Attribution theory is based on reasons we believe contributed to the outcome , these are the reasons we fail and reasons we succeed , attributions fall into 1 of 3 categories.
-1. stability - stable = taking responsibility unstable = making excuses
1. saying I was better than my opponent today this is a example of being stable
2. saying I was lucky to win today this is an example of unstable
3. explaining I wasn't good enough today this is an example of unstable
4. explaining I just didn't get the luck I deserved today this is an example of unstable
My athlete neymar jr and his personality relates to being stable because he takes responsibility for his mistakes and if it effects the team for example he might lose the ball and the other team might score from the chance.
-2 . causality -internal= you are the reason for outcome External = your opponent was the reason
1. saying my opponent was impossible to beat this is an example of external
2. I tired really hard to win that game this is an example of internal
3. explaining my opponent was easy to beat this is an example of external
4. saying I didn't try hard enough today this is an example of external
-3. control - is the reason controllable or uncontrollable ]
1. i won the fight because he wasn't as fit as me this is an example of uncontrollable
2. i didn't train hard enough for this fight this is an example of uncontrollable
3. i trained really hard that's why i won this is an example of controllable
4. he was fitter than me that why i lost this is an example of controllable
Interactional theory- this is the same principles as in the personality theory , put the right people i nto the right situations , students and athletes need the right motivation right environment and right way of direction to be successful.
situational theory- your highly motivated on the court , less so in the class room when learning , coaches and teachers play a big role in situational motivation as they keep you in line.
merit / distinction-
No neymar dosnt have a different level of motivation to other athletes because his goals are to be the best he can and also win silver wear for his club and nation and by completing these challenges he needs to be the best player he can ever be
- tangible awards - money trophies and records
- intangible awards - praise from others such as coaches , family and fans
What are examples of extrinsic motivation -
an example of extrinsic motivation is when your friend is in the crowed and your playing and you have the ball doing many skills to show of how good you are

merit / distinction-
●Does
the level that your athlete performs at influence motivation and if so how and
why
The level that my athlete plays does have an influence on his motivation as he is been watched at every minute of the game because he is an icon and a role model to many people and by being professional you have lots of responsibility and this motivates you to be at yours best in every game
●How
can your athlete use motivation in a positive way to improve training and
performance
my athlete can use motivation in many ways for example because neymar jr is playing in one of the best clubs in the world with one of the best players in the world and a lot of players claiming they are better than him or can play in his position therefore these factors should motivate him to play well and prove them by working and training harder in football training and make him better than other players in the world.
●How
can motivation impact your athlete in a negative way during training and
performance
my athlete can use motivation in many way. by this he can always turn up to training with a positive mental attitude and give 110 % in each and every training session to help him improve his self as a player which will help him in the main games and he can work on his weaknesses until they become one of his strongest parts of his game , motivation can impact your athlete in a negative way during training sessions and games , having a negative mindset can change the way you play , if you have negative thought you will just end up making many mistakes and end up in negative situations which will effect him and his team which nobody wants.
●If
your athlete does not make the team for an important match/race how could this
impact future training and performance
If my athlete dose not make the squad for a big game this will make him work harder in training so his coach will notice he is up to standard of playing big or bigger games in the future, it will also make his performance go up because if he works hard in training it will get his skills and his confidence up so he wont crack under pressure in the big games.
●How
might injury affect your athlete’s motivation (positively and negatively)
This will effect my athletes motivation in a bad way for example when neymar got injured in the quarter finals of the world cup he was stressing about coming back and not being the same player he was he was scared he was going to return as a poor player or not even return to play football again and this effected his motivation to play as the best player he can.
●How
might personal issues affect your athlete’s motivation (positively and
negatively)
This wont effect my athlete because when he steps on to the pitch he is a different person and is only focused on the objective which is to win so his mind set is different on and of the pitch resulting in him not caring about factor which is happening of the pitch and focusing on winning and bringing his team to Victory
●Does
your athlete have a different level of motivation compared to other players,
non-athletes or those from different sports? If so how and why.

stress
stress
Stress is described as a pattern of negative mental and physical responses to a situation. The are two types of stress; Distress and Eustress
Distress -is described as the bad form of stress, this is when you worry about a situation and become nervous. This type of stress is when you're not able to meet your goal as in avoiding it.For example when neymar jr got in injured in the world cup with the back injury he was distressed about not possibly coming back to play football the same again which distressed him
Eustress -is described as the good form of stress this is when you go for it and it leaves with you with a sense of fulfilment and accomplishment. People who have this stress seek the challenge and want the pressure to do better, your skill increases due to the pressure. for example when neymar jr was called up to take a penalty in the open game to make his team win and he went for it with no second answer.
trait- Trait anxiety is a person personality and part of their behaviour , neymar is a type a Athlete so he gets very anxious before important games for example a couples weeks the semi final of champions league he gets nervous because he has a high level of anxiety .
anxiety-State anxiety is the temporary mood change that is an emotional response to a threatening situation , there are two types of state anxiety :
=
symptoms of stress and anxiety
Cognitive anxiety - Is being stressful from your mind loss.
loss of confidence )- This relates to my athlete which is neymar for example when neymar got injured in the world cup with a back problem , he lost confidence because he thought he wasn't going to come back as the same player or come back stronger.
negative thoughts )- This relates to my athlete because when neymar got injured in the world cup he was having negative thoughts about not playing football again and coming back being a bad player
images of failure )- This relates to neymar when e got injured because he was imagining he's going to be a bad player once he recovers and having imagery of him not playing football again
Somatic anxiety - Is when your being stressful physical responses
sweating )- This would effect my athlete for example if neymar was going to take a penalty in the world cup final he would start to sweat because he would fear in missing and its a big moment if he scores and if e misses the opposing team wins
muscle tension )- This would effect neymar because if he's taking the last corner of the games and his legs are shaking because it could be a goal if its a good delivery
vomiting )- This would effect my athlete because neymar might vomit before a game because the game ahead is the decider on who wins the league and a lot of pressure is on him and his team
Behavioural - The physical acts of being stressed
biting finger nails )- This would effect my athlete because if its the cup final of the biggest cup in the league and my athlete would be in the changing room stressing about loosing resulting him biting his nails constantly
avoidance of eye contact )- In the cup final if neymar was going to take a penalty and its a tensional moment and the keeper is trying to put him of by giving him direct eye contact neymar doesn't want to give him eye contact because he's no confident
coving hand with face )- If neymar takes a penalty and misses and he knows its a big moment in the game he will put his head in his hands stressing that he might of put is team in a problem
=
Arousal theory
Cognitive state : is the amount you worry for example when neymar was rushed into hospital when breaking his lower back
Somatic state : your perception of the physiological changes for example now neymar body reactions changes he starts to sweat and starts to move away because he worries.

Arousal theory
Arousal theory is the awareness and anticipation that prepares the body for a sports or any other activity.
Drive theory:This means at low levels of arousal, performance is low and performance increases in line with an increase in arousal

This could impact my athlete performance when he is very excited to play a game hes arousal will increase and make his performance will be better by the higher amount of arousal making him perform to the best of his ability
Inverted U :Moderate level of arousal will give you a high performance . too high or too low levels arousal = to low performance
This will have an impact negatively on my athlete because at time he may not be motivated to play a game and this suggests that if you have a low level of arousal your performance will be poor and also if my athlete is very excited to play this will also have an impact because you need to have an moderate level of arousal to give you a high performance.
Catastrophe: this theory is the same as the Inverted U theory when an athlete has a low cognitive anxiety which suggest that an athlete may be worrying too much. When cognitive levels are too high your performance tends to drop because you will start to lose your head .
This could have an negative effect on my athlete because he may be worrying about stuff outside the pitch and this will make an impact of his performance to decrease and this will also make him loose his head during the game, During a game my athlete can also be worrying about getting injured again so this will make his performance decrease as he is worrying and this is making his performance drop.
Individual zones of optimal functioning : Optimum performances is different for every athlete . Agrees with U that to high arousal= low performance.

My athlete needs to be on his zone for every game so he can perform at his best and this comes down to his motivation he needs to be motivated for every game to he reaches the best of his ability.
